Look how tall those tomato plants are getting!

We had soooooooooo much rain this month! Here is a look at what the weather was like this month. The garden seems to be fairing well, despite the extra rain.

A big shout out to our sister in law, Kim, who came by while we were away to water the garden. We had Kim "feed" the garden today. That was the first time we had given it plant food since we planted. Ron noticed a few "burn" marks on some of the plants. He said its either from the manure, or perhaps the plant food. He is keeping an eye on it.  Our tomato plants already have small tomatoes on them. Very exciting!

Its been VERY chilly and rainy here the past few days. At night, its gone down to the mid-40s. I am hoping that the plants hold up.  I am told that its best to plant after mid-May (known to be end of frost for the New England area) or to wait until June 1st...We shall see!

We went to Al's Greenhouse on Scituate Avenue in Cranston, RI! What a beautiful selection they had! We will definitely be going there every year. They had so many beautiful plants. So many options! All looked very healthy!

For $150, we bought:
4 green pepper plants
2 butternut squash plants
4 eggplant plants
4 large tomato plants (in pots)
9 cucumber plants
6 green bean plants
8 salad mix (combination of 4 red lettuce and 4 curly lettuce)
16 romaine lettuces
16 iceberg lettuces
6 red onion plants
12 yellow onion plants
1 rosemary plant
4 basil plants
1 oregano plant
4 Italian parsley

So....I have decided to start a blog about our new garden. Hopefully this will document all the things that we did right , and help us to correct our mistakes for further gardens!

Ron fertilized the soil with dairy cow manure from Wright's Dairy Farm. We placed a four foot fence around the garden.

Wish us luck! I have NEVER been known to have much of a green thumb!
